My mom, Isaiah and I drove to a town about an hour south to meet up with my aunt and uncle, three cousins and my grandmother for a while. It’s about the halfway point from where we all live, so it’s been a great place to meet up periodically for years. We met for lunch, then headed to a splash park for the little ones to play.
When we got to the splash park, we got the youngest three into swim suits (or diapers as the case may be) and turned them loose. Luke was soaked practically before he got to the water, but Isaiah and Azalea were a little more hesitant. Addie and I ended up getting pretty wet helping them get used to the water, but it was well worth it. I was just glad I’d brought extra clothes in case!
Isaiah was pretty thrilled with the water once he decided it wouldn’t jump out and bite him. At first, he just wanted to admire it while holding my or my mom’s hand. It didn’t take long before he was sticking his hand or foot into it, though! He really liked the small fountains that were just right for touching without getting water in his face.
After a while, Isaiah decided it was alright to follow Luke around, even if it meant getting some water in his eyes. Isaiah loves all his cousins, so there was no way he was going to miss time playing with them over a little water in his face! Luke was great about being careful with the littler two. He made sure not to aim the giant water guns at them or knock them over when he ran.
The splash park is right next to a pool that was playing music. Azalea liked going closer to the pool and dancing to the music with her big sister, Addie. They had lots of fun there in between coming over to get wet.
Isaiah discovered that there were some leaves on the ground and started “washing” them in the water. He thought it was so cool. When Luke realized Isaiah was playing with the leaves, he went and collected a bunch to share. Isaiah would take a leaf, wash it, then pass it back to Luke to trade for another one because he couldn’t hold them all and he wanted to make sure each one got wet!
At one point, Isaiah decided he wanted to follow Addie and Azalea around. He demonstrated to Azalea that getting soaked is even more fun than getting a few drops of water here and there. She had fun showing him all the pretty fountains, too. Addie took them each through a big ring that sprayed water and they both loved it! Isaiah was a little uncertain about it at first, but came through laughing.
When it was time to dry off and go home, none of the kids wanted to leave. Changing Isaiah into a dry diaper presented quite a challenge because he kept trying to run back to the water. Eventually, everyone was dry and had taken a turn getting changed in the back of the van. Hopefully, we can meet and go to the splash park together again soon!
